"Let's steal all the guns in Texas!"

I was going through a bunch of old letters (which were things you wrote with ink on a substance called paper) when I came across one from my old friend, Nancy. Writing from Port Au Prince, she said something that really struck me: I know the truth is around here somewhere, it must be in one of these piles of papers, being very flat.

That was 18 months ago. This song has been growing and mutating since then. Hope you enjoy.

lyrics

Ghost Lovers

I’m walking backwards Into the future
You’re sitting typing, glaring at the past
Everything is history
That’s a real-life mystery

You’re sitting in a downtown second floor walkup
Writing letters in a wicker chair
The truth is hidden in a pile somewhere
Being very flat

Come on babe, I agree to your germs and perditions
Come on babe, let’s steal all the guns in Texas
Head north until we figure
What the hell this mess is

Ghost brothers Ghost feathers
Ghost sisters Ghost letters

How do they do it
Stay beautiful forever

It looked so lovely in my head.
You got to do it for the views, she said
Please do us all a favor
And keep glaring at the past

Come on babe, I agree to your acts of sedition
Come on babe, shake off the dust and quit wishin’
The reason I remember
Is the reason you forget

How do they do it
Stay beautiful forever
How do they do it
Stay beautiful forever

Ghost brothers Ghost feathers
Ghost sisters Ghost letters
Ghost brothers Ghost feathers
Ghost sisters Ghost lovers
