Song to the Siren (Tim Buckley cover)

by The BCC

/

about

Song to the Siren was written by Tim Buckley to a poem by his collaborator, Larry Beckett. Buckley originally performed this song on the final episode of The Monkees in 1968. It's been covered myriad times since then. We're especially enamored of the This Mortal Coil version.

But we'd long forgotten about the tune until we recently listened to a podcast from BBC Radio 4 called "Soul Music." It's a wonderful program that taps into how a piece of music has effected people, whether famous or not, and British or otherwise. They did a segment on "Song to the Siren" and I was so struck with what Larry Beckett had to say, in effect that "everything I wrote back then is best forgotten. Except for one thing."

While most versions are dead slow, we decided to speed things up to a proper folk rock tempo. Hope you enjoy, and do please let us know what you think.
